Mooncake festival came early

Yet another update. Are ye happy or not? Today was quite a productive day. Got up at 11.00 am and after taking bath, Ai Ling and I headed off to Tesco for lunch and to buy groceries and such. Mom asked me to get Brand's Chicken Essence for myself days ago so I finally managed to get a box today. Did some History of the English Language revision this afternoon (which from now onwards shall be named HOEL or HELL) and I didn't fall asleep at all! Now, I don't know whether to attribute that to the essence or to the fact that I had enough sleep. Hmmm.

Anyway, while walking around Tesco, we chanced upon mooncakes. Lots and lots of it. Mooncakes reminds me of steamboats, lantern playing and lots of homemade ones from the baking queen aunt and home, in general. The boxes were just so attractive. I think these companies have really upped the attractiveness of the packaging this time.

Boxes and boxes of mooncakes.

Now this box is quite the amazing.

Photobucket
It has this little drawer thing! Now, at first we thought that both the upper and lower part would be jammed with mooncakes but after opening we found....

Photobucket
Mooncakes in little bags and a dining set! So the clever, wouldn't you say?

Photobucket
Now I am not a fan of Chinese chess but I seriously wouldn't mind getting this lo.

Photobucket
Apart from the bite-size mooncakes which I can happily stuff in my mouth piece by piece ( what a lovely thought =D), it also comes with a free Chinese chess set, which I can happily donate to err people who are interested in playing it. Err.. Derek is that you? Lol.

Yummy looking bite-sized mooncakes with Chinese chess characters printed on them.

For more fun, you can use the mooncake chess pieces on this board before devouring them. Good concept I say.

Beautiful, beautiful boxes from The Baker's Cottage. Love the modern twist added to the traditional design of the boxes.

Lookie look! The colourful stipes at the side are the <3

We were most impressed by the mooncakes sold in this section cos they had so many different types of flavours. After browsing through the leaflet, we decided to buy 2 to try!

Behold, our Precious Black and Blueberry blackcurrant cheese.

Photobucket
We shared this with Derek and Jang Yee. This Precious Black is a Chef Reccommended recommendation so we thought why not? It did look very unique anyway. According to the leaflet, it has a pure charcoal powder butter pastry skin, has no sugar added into the white lotus paste with chunky dried longan and natural wolfberry lotus paste. I don't quite know what wolfberry is but it sounds yummy!

This is also a new flavour by The Baker's Cottage. It has a fruity blueberry lotus paste with dried blackcurrant chunks and a rich cheesy filling. Sounds good as well.

Photobucket
The Precious Black design which consists of a stork (?) and a moon.

Inside Precious Black. It was good. The buttery smell of the pastry was nice and the filling was quite the unique as well.

The lotus design on the blueberry blackcurrant cheese one.

Inside. Loved this one as well. Reminded me of a blueberry cheese tart. The fruity taste wasn't too overpowering and went with the pastry and cheese well.

I shall have to hit the books again after this le sigh. Yes, call me a nerd if you must but I think maintaining my grades are quite the important. Process is tedious but it is a must. Sigh.

Short semester schedule is also out. Who would have thought that the 7 weeks for the short semester would be as tedious as this semester? I can foresee assignment deadlines lining up close to one another *gulps.

Registration opens next Wednesday and that is the day where we have a full day of classes. By the time I get to do the registration, all the good slots would have been taken up by other students *grumbles.

Someting quite the interesting happened today. Ai Ling and I were poring through our books on the dining room table when this horrid smell hit our nostrils. We sniffed around a bit and decided that something outside (buffalo or dog faeces) was causing that smell. So she shut the sliding door but the smell was still there! After an hour or so, she went to investigate again.

Turns out there was a smashed lizard (decomposing already, mind you) STUCK to top of the sliding door.

She was brave enough to remove it while I was busy hiding away in my room =/

Till then.
