The great Sibu adventure

Yes, yes. As I mentioned previously, we were going to drive down to Sibu to watch the state level marching band competition. Digressing a bit, I thought that the results were very agreeable this time. St. Joseph Kuching deserved first for putting up a very entertaining show. The theme was football and it was really good, to summarise it. As for the former band, they did well and got third. Congrats to the St. Joseph Miri band! Despite their last minute practices and such, they put up a good show and the music quality was good. Best precussion award went to them also. 3 years straight weih. A band was also found playing the St. Joseph school song during their performance. I forgot which band it was already but I think it was the SMK Bintulu one. It was so random indeed.

If you must know (which you don't), I'm currently doing this post while trying to log in to the uni portal. Results are out but I am still unable to log in. For the past 2 hours =.=

Back to the great Sibu adventure! Why would a drive be called an adventure you ask? Well, before the start of the journey, everyone thought that it would be a very normal journey. HOWEVER, we actually faced some complications on the way. More on that later.

Along for the ride with my mom and I were my paternal cousin, Kok Chuan and maternal cousin, Benjamin. Yes, the usual cousinhood threesome we are. We intended to start the 6 hour journey at 5.30 am but after dillying around for a bit we started at around 6.00 am.

Stopped at the petrol station first before making our way.

Now, when relatives heard they we were driving up to Sibu, most of them advised my mom to get the car checked before going off. The car had just been serviced not too long ago so no checking was done.

Driving on the coastal road. Comments about The Mist kept coming. The weather was still nice though.

Photobucket
The drive continued till we reached Bekenu when my mom suddenly realized that the car temperature was getting higher.

We drove for a while longer till we reached this plantation place. It was around 90+ KM away from Bintulu then. We decided to let the car rest a bit there. Smoke emitted from the bonnet when we did. Cousin Ben, being a technical person thought that there was no water in the tank. Thank goodness an aunt reminded us to bring an extra bottle of water in case the car overheats.

Photobucket
The young security there was quite helpful and gave us some tips on managing the car.

After adding water, we made our way to Bintulu. We were advised to drive slower so that the engine would not heat up that fast.

Anyway the temperature kept increasing so we had to decrease it by turning off the car air condition.

Photobucket
We reached Bintulu at around 9 something I think and mom managed to give the cousins a little tour of the place before heading to EON to get the car fixed. The mechanic said the wire for the fan connected to the air conditioner of the car was loose. After fixing it for us, we made our move. The anticipate time for reaching Sibu then was around 12-ish. Thinking that our problems were solved we happily drove out of Bintulu to Sibu.

Now, as soon as we were on no-man's road, the temperature started going up again! Offing the air-conditioner did not do the trick this time so we had to stop by the side of the road -again.

'Mechanic' Ben doing his thing while Kok Chuan looks on. I think mom called Kok Chuan's elder brother then to ask him what to do in this situation. He's a qualified mechanic. Apparently, the wire was not the only problem with the car. The boys discovered that one of the fans inside the car wasn't moving. So, as usual, we had to wait for the car to cool down before continuing our journey.

Photobucket
I saw this sign and decided to take a photo of it when cousin Benjamin came up to me and asked me to post with the sign. After all, how often do we stop by the road side to take photos with a concrete sign?

Photobucket
Supposed to be lost or something but I chose to hug the sign instead. Haha. 85 more KM to Sibu!!

Photobucket
Cousin Ben doing his lost pose.

Photobucket
Yet another attempt.

Ben posing with the flipside of the sign.

We are so bo liao that random places becomes good places for photo-taking.

When the engine cooled off, we continued our journey. 10 KM into the driving, the meter went up again so we had to surprise, surprise. Stop again. At the rate we were going, we were not able to arrive at Sibu at the initially planned time =(

We stopped at a bus stop this time.

Owh yes, apologies for some of the unrotated photos. I rotated them when I uploaded them and I don't know why they unrotated themselves when I uploaded them on Photobucket.

Kok Chuan posing at the bus-stop.

Photobucket
And again. Tsk tsk.

Photobucket
We started fooling around with it after that.

Photobucket
Ben doing the 'hitch a ride' move.

Photobucket
The 'wooo~ Look!" photo.

Photobucket
High-fashioned hijack move mode.

Photobucket
Hahaha. Erm no idea.

Photobucket
Yes, yes. Hijack move.

Now, not long after we continued our journey, we had to stop -again. =.= Mind you, it was afternoon then and the HEAT was horrendous.

Photobucket
Cousin Ben and his leaf umbrella.

Photobucket
Think mom was sleeping in the car then.

Photobucket
Candid shot by cousin Ben.

Photobucket
Ben emoing at the dilapidated shed.

Photobucket
Posing, yet again.

Photobucket
Kok Chuan staring at mud while Ben looks on.

Photobucket
Candid, candid.

I shall continue with the post next time. It's getting late and I need sleep =/

On a random note, I've decided to get a DSLR as a birthday present for myself =D I know la. Such a 'typical' thing to do. Mom reckons I should get Nikon but I am kind of interested in Canon. Ah well. Camera shopping soon.

Till then.
