Ipoh Recap

Well, the title above and some other random bits as usual of course. Haha. Yes, the day trip to Ipoh with Ling Jie and Sooi Pheng was indeed F-U-N. I remember the first time I went there with Ai Ling, her twin brothers and their friend. Back then I wasn't very impressed with Ipoh in general probably because:

a) I was still quite homesick and emo
b) I wasn't feeling too well then (which has something to do with option (a))
c) I wasn't particularly hyped up over visiting Ipoh (which also has something to do with option (a))

Anyway. I've always been impressed with their food. Very Yum. Like Tom Yam. Lame I know.

However, this trip has been the total opposite. The shopping was good for all 3 of us and we spent less than RM 350 for a bunch of stuff! Of course, this includes the transportation fees and food. Will justify our expenditure later on la.

The day started off with the drive to Ipoh via taxi at around 8.30 am. We initially wanted to visit Ipoh Parade to do some shopping. Our Ipoh coursemate suggested we eat at this commercial centre called Greentown but upon arrival, most of the shops were not open so the taxi uncle brought us to another eating location which is near Parade. There were plenty of eatery outlets to choose from ranging from dim sum to noodle houses and such. After some thought, we decided to eat DIM SUM =D

Photobucket
On our previous trip, we went to have dim sum at Foh San, courtesy of Soon jie's twin brothers and friend. It was fantastic and the lou mai kai was the best. The taxi driver told us that they were going to move to this new building soon.

This time, we did not eat at Foh San. Being newbs in a new city, we hardly knew the directions there. However, the taxi uncle reassured us that dim sum in Ipoh were generally delicious. So, we ate at

Photobucket
Yoke Fook Moon Hong Kong dim sum.

It's actually quite pricey lor. However, for the price we paid, it was very much worth it.

Also, when eating in such places, be sure to bring someone who knows how to read mandarin or even better, speak cantonese.

Photos of food as usual.

Photobucket
Bird nest egg tarts. This is the <3 style="text-align: center;"> Photobucket
Lou mai kai.

Photobucket
Char Siew Pau. We reckon the one from Foh San was nicer. Nevertheless, it was still good.

Photobucket
Lo mee. Tasted like sticky friend rice which was yummy.

Photobucket
HAR KAO!!! Look at the juicy prawns *Slurps.

Photobucket
Don't know the name for this one but it was filled with mince pork and mushrooms I think.

Photobucket
This entire thing was made out of prawns. Owh, the juiciness!

Photobucket
I don't know why, but we kept ordering things that had prawns in them. We had sweet and sour fried prawn thing and prawn popiah. The popiah had some other seafood in it and had a hint of cheesy taste.

Photobucket
Fishballs.

Photobucket
Chee cheong fun. It had prawns in them too. =D I haven't had them in ages!

Photobucket
After another cup of crysthenmun tea. Satisfaction indeed.

After breakfast, we walked over to Ipoh Parade to start shopping. Shopping loot photos will come later la.

Photobucket
We had green tea ice-cream for RM 2.50

Photobucket
Check out Ai Ling's poo shaped ice-cream. HAHA.

Photobucket
Quite funny right?

Photobucket
Ice cream whoring time. It was seriously quite good. The ice-cream I mean. The taste was mild and the texture creamy.

Photobucket
And again.

Photobucket
Sooi Pheng reminded me of Jessica in some ways. Like the way she complained she looked ugly in photos when she actually looked fine. Or the way she talked. It was only during this day trip then did I notice these similarities.

Photobucket
"It never stops.." (Samara from The Ring, remember?)

Photobucket
Sooi Pheng's ice-cream is melting. This girl ah. Don't know how she eat one. Lol.

Photobucket
Yes, I am kissing my ice-cream in all these shots =.=

Photobucket
Spotted: Ai Ling's best friend. It's a man some more Arghh!

Photobucket
Shopping break. While we were waiting to meet up with Cheryl and her super nice parents who were at Parade then.

We also met up with another coursemate, Darryl who also brought us around to eat Ipoh's famous taugeh and chicken and really good hor fun.

Went to his house to visit his terrier, Goldie.

Photobucket
It's really cute but quite active so I was actually quite scared of it, as usual. The only person who was comfortable with the dog was Ai Ling cos she's a natural dog lover. Sooi Pheng was also quite terrified of it. HAHA.

Photobucket
It sort of jumped on her and she actually screamed lololol.

Photobucket
Apart from Goldie, he has an array of other pets namely fishes. Lots and lots of it. This is just a portion. He's an avid fishing fan and would keep some of his catch as pets.

He also has birds and two extremely fat cats.

Photobucket
Meet Bob Tail and Long Tail (I think those are the names). Damn fat but damn clean lo.

Photobucket
Their DYI fountain. I think his family is generally very hardworking and determined.

Photobucket
We also paid a visit to the PC fair held at the indoor stadium located very near his place.

After that, it was off to dinner! We headed to old town for the hor fun, chicken and taugeh.

Photobucket
Overview! I don't know the name of this cafe (wasn't paying attention to the signs *sigh) but it has this notice that says it sells the best taugeh chicken in Ipoh. Which is real.

Photobucket
Hor fun! Do not trust the simple look of this bowl of goodness. Do. Not.

Photobucket
Deliciously soft chicken.

Photobucket
Juicy taugeh. Sooi Pheng's addiction.

Photobucket
Fish and meatball soup. Not bad.

We walked around the Pasar Malam located nearby for a while and then decided to head to Jusco. This Sooi Pheng kept wanting to go there for some reason. It seems that she was quite obsessed with Jusco then. Hmm.

However, the plans fell through cos we had to head to the other way to get KTM tickets home. See, the old uncle taxi driver who sent us to Ipoh said that he was able to send us back to Kampar too but when Ai Ling called him, he asked us to use an Ipoh taxi back. What la he. Maybe he forgot his offer already haih.

Photobucket
The KTM station. Obviously bigger and nicer than Kampar's.

Photobucket
We managed to get the 9.45 pm ticket back to Kampar for RM 4 per person. It was already getting late so heading to Jusco would have been a not so good idea so Darryl brought us to Greentown Mall instead.

We hung around at a pet shop and spent our time staring at fishes. Yeh.

Photobucket
Sooi Pheng and I with a fish tank. Heck, they even have aquarium coffee tables these days!

Photobucket
And again. I look awful. Shh.

Photobucket
Group shot before Darryl dropped us off at the KTM station. Many thanks for bringing us around!

Photobucket
Both Ai Ling and my shopping bags. Haha.

Photobucket
Not bad ey? Haha.

Anyway, shopping loot photos below.

Photobucket
Dark chocolate from the 100 Yen shop. I love that place! It is located outside Ipoh Parade and we chanced upon it while walking to Darryl's car. The shop sells Japanese products, ranging from food to basically anything from the price RM 4.90 to RM 6.90. We were quite awestruck in the store but I managed to control myself *proud. Shall head back there next time to buy some sushi stuff for mom.

Photobucket
Bloop nail polish (Buy 2 free 1. One bottle is Rm 9.90) and facial scrub. RM 7 bangle from the Thai expo fair. Cheapness.

Photobucket
Cap, RM 23 from FOS for my cycling days. Yes, the torn part is part of its deco.

Photobucket
RM 1.90 earrings. I have a long necklace with the exact same bead so I bought this.

Photobucket
One of my favouritest buy. Floral dress! RM 38. Quite pricey actually but it's so pretty.

Photobucket
The material is sort of flimsy. Pretty.

Photobucket
Bought jelly also from the 100 Yen shop, Cleo mag, secondhand Reader's Digest for Rm 4.oo from Novel Hut (secondhand bookshop), wire hair tie, RM 12.90 belt and some refills for this toilet cleaner we bought also from the 100 yen shop for RM 4.90.

Photobucket
RM 11.00 top!

Photobucket
Tees! RM 30 for 2. I like the McD one =D

Photobucket
Towel, Rm 16.90 from the reject shop and comfy black pants, RM 15 also from the Thai expo.

Photobucket
Me in my dress plus belt. Shall pair it with leggings. Mms this to my sis to let her see the dress hence, the existence of this photo.

I also spent RM 60 on tees for the family from Hang Ten. Rm 15 for one.

Photobucket
I also got this hairband for RM 3.50. Sooi Pheng has it in the similar pattern and another one in red. This is for days when I want to be Ah Lianised. Haha.

Photobucket
Playing with Derek's shades. Guess how much is it?

Photobucket
It's like RM 9.90 only from Tesco. Haha! We stopped by their place after we got back cos Derek wanted to compare shopping. Yes. Compare. Shopping. So girly right? Sigh.

Randoms below

Photobucket
Two images my dear cousin Ben mmsed me these few days. The one above was taken during Ching Ming and the one below, just today.

I tell you hor, I think my family is beginning to enjoy life and FOOD more once my sister and I are off from the nest. We almost never ate out lor last time! What is this. Look at my brother stuffing his face. Hmmph.

I miss home cooking. Grrr.

Photobucket
Saturday night's dinner. Cabbage soup and eggs. The cabbage soup was not that nice lor. It wasn't grandmotherish enough. Maybe I bought the wrong cabbage. Hmm.

Photobucket
RM 5 for 1 boxer shorts from Tesco. Quite nice right? Hurhur.

Hence, this wraps up my long post. Till then.
