Of birthdays and steamboats

3 consecutive birthdays from the 29th Sept till the 1st Oct. Started off with Fiona's birthday on the 29th which we all camwhored together and got our photos put into a collage courtesy of Daphne and Siew Siew. Next was my colleague and friend, Amy's 18th birthday on the 30th Sept (she's sort of like a younger sister to me I reckon) and lastly it was my dad's birthday yesterday.

Of course, in conjunction with the Raya celebrations, that would mean lots and lots of food and binge eating. Shall do the steamboat post today and I shall leave the rest of the foodie pics for a next post for I have to sleep early today and work till 10 pm tomorrow.

I slept in for the past 2 days and it has been great. I seldom have this opportunity to do that so I made sure I used it to the max this time. Also, I have started getting pimples again and I don't understand why. WHY?!!

Owh, I shall be heading off to KL this 26th of December. We'll probably be bumming around there before I head to Perak on January. I have a few things to stock up I think. I am annoyed at the fact that the application form for UTAR is not even out yet. It's October already for crying out loud. I check the website every single day to see if the form is out but instead of uploading the admission form, things such as rules and regulations for applying are put up instead. Yeesh. Not knowing my schedule yet, I have not booked my flight back for Chinese New Year. I am definitely worried about that part cos I very much want to be back in Miri for the celebrations. Sigh. It's all in Your hands, Lord. May Your will be done.

There was this tiny fiasco that occurred when I booked the flying over tickets the other day. They did not send my flight itinerary via email and I got worried naturally. I was sure I gave the correct email address. Anyway, I called up the Airasia hot line for about 4 times before I finally got through to a salesperson. She sent me my itinerary straight away and I am happy. The end.

Enough talk. Time for the Kuai Ke Li review. I have no idea what the name is in English for I never pay attention to the signboard whenever I visit this shop. If it helps, it's located in Yakin commercial centre and is in the same row as Brand On Street.

Amy turned 18 on the 30th September and just did not want us to get a present for her or cakes or anything at all. So, 3 of us colleagues decided to treat her to dinner. After much thought, everyone agreed to a steamboat dinner at Kuai Ke Li because we heard good reviews about that place and have never been there for steamboat before.

This is the overall table with the food laden on it. The plate closest is mind which is a beef+lamb+seafood set and a vegetable platter. The one next to it is fish fillets I think. Can't really remember what the other 2 ordered. I know pork was involved though. Might I say that the drinks here are pretty cheap as well.

This restaurant offers 3 kinds of sauce (or paste) to add to the soup. We ordered all 3 sauces they had which were the tomyam, ma lak and sa char sauces. I mixed all 3 sauces into my soup and it was oh-so delicious. Love the spicy tang.

The original soup served is some sort of herb soup. You can have it like that if you want but I prefer having it with the sauce cos I like spicy stuff. Yum.

Apart from the set we ordered, we also had some side dishes such as japanese tofu, dumplings and special mushrooms. I particularly liked the dumplings because of the juicy filling.

I had plum tea and it was indeed very refreshing. Wasn't overly sweet and had this subtle green tea taste. A pretty good drink.

Apart from the noodles I had here, I would say that the steamboat here is worth a try. I would go back there for the lovely sauce choices, drinks and dumplings. Owh and also the noodles. Owh owh and the portion of the steamboat set.

After having a fill of food, we headed of to Dessert's for dessert. We were too full for cakes and settled for some yummy ice-cream instead. I had my yummy (low fat hoho) mango ice cream and another scoop of D'snickers. It was good as usual. We sat around and made small talk while flipping through magazines. Of course, before leaving, we had a fair share of photo taking. Haha.

Too hot for a fringe.

So it's back to work tomorrow. I will survive.

Till the next food post.

P/S Check out the vintage Cadbury Roses video below. I remember watching this on our old taped Australian tv shows and I used to love this advert a lot.

Thank you very, very, very much. Haha.
